Who We Are

Tónar is operated by Sp/f Tónar in the Faroe Islands. This policy explains how we handle data for the Tónar Android and iPhone apps, the Tónar music services, and tonar.fo.

Contact: hans@tonar.fo

Data We Collect

We collect only the data needed to provide the app, stream music, maintain user accounts, and improve the service.

  • Account data: your Tónar user ID, sign-in identifier, display name, and email address if provided by the sign-in provider.
  • App activity: playlists you create, tracks you add or remove, music playback sessions, playback completion, release and track requests, and related library actions.
  • Technical data: IP address, user agent, request logs, diagnostics, and security logs from our API and hosting systems.
  • Notification data: if you opt in, an app installation identifier, device platform, app version, language, time zone, and your selected notification categories.
  • Royndarhald activity: for signed-in users who have Royndarhald for testing, a random app-installation identifier, platform, app version and build, first and last observed app use, foreground session count and duration, and listening statistics. We do not collect the screens you open or buttons you tap for this feature.
  • Feedback data: the message, platform, category, source, optional app version, and optional contact email that you choose to submit through the public feedback form. The feedback record does not include your Tónar account, IP address, browser user agent, or listening history.
  • Website analytics: cookie-free, aggregate page views and basic browser/referrer information for tonar.fo, processed with Usable Web Analytics without local storage or visitor fingerprinting.

The Android app does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, videos, SMS, call logs, health data, calendar, or advertising ID. The Android app does not collect payment card numbers. If payments are offered on tonar.fo, card details are handled by the payment processor.

How We Use Data

  • To let you browse and stream Faroese music.
  • To manage sign-in, playlists, account state, and app preferences.
  • To send only the device-notification categories you choose, such as app updates or new music releases.
  • To measure playback, diagnose problems, secure the service, and prevent abuse.
  • To understand aggregate usage so we can improve Tónar and support music catalogue operations.
  • For Royndarhald users, to confirm activation, provide support, and follow up the agreed test. Access to identifiable tester activity is restricted to authorised superadmins, requires a stated purpose, and is logged.
  • To review tester feedback, diagnose reported problems, and contact you only if you provide an email address for follow-up.

We process account and service activity to perform our agreement to provide Tónar and for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, supporting, and evaluating the service. We do not use this data for advertising or combine it with third-party data to track you across apps or websites.

Sharing

We do not sell personal data and we do not use personal data for third-party advertising. We may process data with service providers that help us operate Tónar, including hosting, authentication, storage, device notifications, analytics, security, and payment providers. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the service and users.

Security And Retention

Data is transmitted over HTTPS in production. We use access controls, authentication, and operational safeguards to protect the service. We keep account and app data while your account is active, and retain logs or backups only as long as needed for security, reliability, legal, accounting, or abuse-prevention purposes. Complimentary tester app-usage aggregates are kept while complimentary access is active and for 180 days after it ends. Short-lived retry receipts are removed after seven days.

Your Choices

You can turn device notifications or individual notification categories on or off under Profilur at any time. Turning notifications off unregisters that app installation from delivery. You can also sign out of the app at any time, object to processing based on legitimate interests, request access or correction, and request deletion of your Tónar account and associated app data from inside the app or by using the public deletion instructions. You may complain to the Faroese Data Protection Authority (Dátueftirlitið).

Children

Tónar is not directed to children. If you believe a child has provided personal data to Tónar, contact us and we will review the request.

Changes

We may update this policy as Tónar evolves. The latest version will be available at this URL with the effective date shown above.
